SculpSure Q & A

Natomas Family Practice

What is SculpSure?

SculpSure is a noninvasive form of body sculpting. The SculpSure treatment system uses laser technology to melt away resistant fat in areas like the lower abdomen. SculpSure can permanently destroy up to 24% of all fat cells in the targeted area.*

How does SculpSure treatment work?

Most patients find SculpSure to be pain-free — in fact, there’s no anesthesia needed. The doctors use a group of four treatment paddles to deliver the laser light. These paddles are grouped closely together to cover the entire target area. The laser light wavelength used in SculpSure seeks out the deep layers of fat cells, yet bypasses the outer layer of skin without causing any damage.

As the laser reaches your fat cells, you feel a warming sensation. This is a sign that the laser is agitating the fat cells into releasing the fat inside. The lymphatic system then clears away the damaged fat cells over the following weeks and months.

Who is a good SculpSure candidate?

The doctors at Natomas Family Practice perform an individual evaluation to determine whether this treatment is right for you. To be a candidate for SculpSure, you should:

  • Be at a healthy weight, or very close to your ideal weight
  • Maintain your weight for a year or more prior to SculpSure treatment
  • Have made an effort to lose the fat through diet and exercise, without success

SculpSure is not for someone who is obese or who wants to lose a lot of weight — it’s simply a body-sculpting treatment to get rid of those last few stubborn pockets of fat.

How many SculpSure appointments are needed?

This depends on the areas you want to target. For each targeted area, we recommend at least two treatments per area to "treat to complete", although some patients may require just one. Because your body gradually disposes of the fat cells, you won’t see the final results of your SculpSure treatment until three months after treatment. At that point, you can discuss it with Dr. Lau or Dr. Hwang and determine whether you want further body contouring.

Is SculpSure permanent?

SculpSure permanently destroys fat cells in the treatment areas, but fat cells in the neighboring areas are still present and could expand if you don't work to maintain your results. Most patients find that if they continue with a healthy eating plan and regular exercise, they can maintain the SculpSure results for the long term.

If you’re interested in a sleeker and slimmer body, SculpSure may be right for you. To arrange a consultation with one of the doctors please email us at NFPSculpsure@gmail.com or give us a call at 916-928-0254.
